Algeria Launch AFCON 2025 Campaign with A Win: Algeria 3-0 Win Over Sudan

In their Group E opener at the Stade Prince Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat on December 24, 2025, two-time champions Algeria delivered a dominant performance, defeating Sudan 3-0 to claim three crucial points.

The Desert Foxes wasted no time asserting control. Captain Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring in just the second minute, finishing coolly after a clever assist from Hicham Boudaoui. The Al-Ahli star doubled the lead in the 61st minute, showcasing his enduring quality with a clinical strike.

Substitute Ibrahim Maza completed the rout in the 85th minute, converting a headed pass from Baghdad Bounedjah. This goal marked Algeria's historic 100th in AFCON finals history.

Sudan, playing in reduced numbers after Salaheldin Adil's first-half red card, showed resilience amid ongoing domestic challenges that forced them to qualify away from home. Goalkeeper Monged Elneel made several key saves, but the Falcons struggled to threaten Luca Zidane's goal on his AFCON debut.

Under coach Vladimir Petković, Algeria, featuring stars like Ismaël Bennacer, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Mahrez, looked balanced and intent on redeeming recent group-stage disappointments. This was the nations' first-ever AFCON meeting, with Algeria maintaining an unbeaten record in prior encounters.

The victory places the Fennecs atop Group E alongside Burkina Faso on goal difference. Sudan face a tough road ahead against Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso.

As the tournament progresses in Morocco, Algeria's statement win reignites hopes of a third continental crown. The Desert Foxes are roaring!
