U17 AFCON 2026 Group Table Standings: Early Leaders Emerge in Morocco

The 2026 TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations has officially kicked off in Morocco, with Africa’s brightest young football talents battling for continental glory and qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Several teams have already made strong starts in the opening round of group-stage fixtures. Here are the current U17 AFCON 2026 Group Table Standings
The top 2 teams in each group get a ticket to the U17 world cup in Qatar later this year.
Group A Standings
Group A began with a tightly contested goalless draw between Egypt and Ethiopia. Both sides earned one point after failing to break the deadlock in a cautious opening encounter. Morocco, who are hosting the tournament, drew 1-1 in their bid to retain the title but they won 2-1 in their 2nd match against Ethiopia and capped this off with another win over Egypt. Egypt overpowered Tunisia 2-1 in the 2nd round of the group stages and Tunisia were again beaten by Ethiopia in the 3rd match

Morocco U17 – 7 points
Egypt U17 – 4 point
Ethiopia U17 – 4 points
Tunisia U17 – 1 points
Morocco and Egypt advance to the quarterfinals and to the U17 world cup.

Group B Standings
Group B produced exciting football as Uganda and Côte d’Ivoire both secured opening victories. Uganda defeated DR Congo 3-0, while Côte d’Ivoire beat Cameroon 2-0 to move level on three points at the top of the standings. Ivory coast followed up with a 1-0 victory over DR Congo to all but qualify for the 2026 U17 World cup. Cameroon bounced back from defeat in the 1st game to beat Uganda by a solitary goal, but went on to defeat DR Congo by the same margin in the final game. DR Congo were unable to earn a point losing all 3 games of the group stage.

Côte d’Ivoire U17 – 7 points
Cameroon U17 – 6 points
Uganda U17 – 4 points
DR Congo U17 – 0 points
Ivory Coast and Cameroon advance to the quarterfinals and to the U17 world cup.

Groups C Standings
Tanzania U17 lead the group after a dominant 3-0 win over Mozambique followed by another 3-0 win over Angola. Mali drew their first 2 games against Angola U17 and Mozambique U17.

Tanzania – 6 pts
Mali – 5 pts
Mozambique – 4 pts
Angola – 3 pts
Tanzania and Mali advance to the quarterfinals and to the U17 world cup.

Groups D Standings
Algeria U17 top the group with 4 points after defeating South Africa 2-0 and drawing with Ghana 2-2 in the first game. Senegal U17 sit 3rd after a10-man win over Ghana and having lost opening game to South Africa. Ghana U17 Have only collected 1 point from this tough group.

Algeria – 4 pts
Ghana –3 pts
South Africa – 3 pts
Senegal and Algeria advance to the quarterfinals and to the U17 world cup.

The expanded 16-team tournament continues to showcase the future stars of African football, with the top teams earning spots at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
