The Uganda Cubs face a defining moment in their U-17 World Cup campaign, taking on Burkina Faso in the Round of 16. A win here could mark Uganda’s deepest run yet at this level — and set their young stars on a path to global recognition.


Burkina Faso send Uganda home


In a dramatic Round of 16 clash at the 2025 U17 World Cup in Doha, Burkina Faso edged Uganda on penalties after a tense 1–1 draw. Uganda took the lead in the second half through Arafat Nkoola (56’), but Alassana Bagayogo leveled for Burkina Faso around the 77th minute.


Neither side could find a winning goal in regular time, and the match headed to a shootout. Burkina Faso held their nerve and converted all five penalties, while Uganda missed one — handing the Stallions a 5–3 win in the shootout.


The loss ended Uganda’s remarkable World Cup debut, but the young “Cubs” earned widespread praise for their composure, tactical maturity, and heart.


Quarter Finals


Burkina Faso’s victory sends them into the quarter-finals, continuing their strong run in the tournament. They will play against Italy on the 21st of November 2025.

Uganda’s Road to the Round of 16

  • Uganda qualified for the U-17 World Cup after a dramatic comeback win over The Gambia in the CAF U-17 qualifiers. They overturned a deficit to win 2–1 and secure their historic place at the tournament.


  • In their Round of 32 match, Uganda edged out Senegal 1–0. The decisive moment came from Abubakali Walusimbi, who struck a superb goal in the first half.

Burkina Faso’s Route to the Round of 16.

  • Burkina Faso secured their Round of 16 spot with a hard-fought 2–1 win over Czech Republic in the group stage.
