Achraf Hakimi Rejects AFCON 2025 Title: Morocco Captain Stands for Fair Play Amid CAF Controversy

In a rare display of sporting integrity, Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has publicly rejected the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title awarded to his country by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Despite CAF's Appeal Board ruling on March 17, 2026, that overturned Senegal's 1-0 extra-time win in the final (due to a temporary walk-off protest and forfeit under Articles 82 & 84), Hakimi insists the trophy belongs to Senegal.

The PSG star and world-class right-back stated: "I respect the CAF decision, but I'm officially rejecting the trophy. I didn't win 2025 AFCON. Congratulations to Senegal once again."

He added a personal touch: "My mum told me to reject the AFCON trophy. I'm rejecting it and hope my teammates do the same. We had a chance but failed to win. Senegal beat us fairly and deserved it."

This bold stance follows CAF's decision to declare a 3-0 forfeit win for hosts Morocco after chaos in the January 18 final at Rabat's Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Senegal scored the winner in extra time after resuming play.

Hakimi's rejection has sparked massive praise across Africa for prioritizing on-pitch merit over administrative rulings. Senegal plans to challenge the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), while the football community debates justice vs. regulations.

A powerful message from one of football's biggest stars: true champions are made on the field!
