During the 2025 Ballon D’Or ceremony in Paris, Hannah Hampton was awarded the inaugural Women’s Yashin Trophy, recognizing her as the world’s best female goalkeeper for 2025.
Hampton’s Impressive Season
Hampton played a critical role for Chelsea, helping them secure a domestic treble: the Women’s Super League, FA Cup, and League Cup, and almost going all the way in the Women’s Champions League.
She was outstanding at Euro 2025, especially in the Euro 2025 final; England vs Spain, where she saved two penalties and registered the highest save percentage of any goalkeeper in the tournament.
Her overall stats are just as impressive: 21 clean sheets in all competitions for Chelsea, plus critical long balls and passing that launched attacks.
What Did Hampton Say?
In her acceptance speech, Hampton was emotional and humble saying that she say the achievement as one for women’s goalkeeping in general.
She paid tribute to the many goalkeepers who came before her, coaches from her youth clubs, the fans, and her teammates
Inaugural Yashin Trophy
This was the first time the Yashin Trophy was awarded to a woman, making her the maiden winner in this category. She placed 10th overall in the Ballon d’Or Féminin rankings, with other Chelsea stars Lucy Bronze, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Sandy Baltimore also in the top-10.
What This Means for Women’s Football
The introduction of a dedicated Yashin Trophy for women signals growing respect and parity in award recognition. Goalkeeping in the women’s game is getting more specialist attention and young goalkeepers can now see that excellence pays off both in trophies and global recognition.
