La Liga in Morocco could soon become a reality. In a bold new international expansion move, La Liga president Javier Tebas has confirmed that the Spanish top flight is seriously considering hosting official league matches in Casablanca.

Following the collapse of long-discussed plans to play a match in Miami, Tebas has shifted focus to North Africa. In a recent interview, he highlighted the massive support for Spanish football in Morocco and the logistical advantages of playing close to home.
“Given the number of supporters who follow the Spanish league in Morocco, I think it would be easier to play there, especially because the logistical constraints linked to travel are minimal,” Tebas said. He specifically mentioned the possibility of staging a game at the brand-new Casablanca stadium, adding: “We could also consider a match in the new Casablanca stadium. Why not?”
Why La Liga in Morocco Makes Perfect Sense
Morocco boasts one of the largest and most passionate fanbases for Real Madrid, Barcelona, and other La Liga clubs outside Spain. The geographical proximity means shorter travel times for teams, while the country’s modern infrastructure and preparations to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal make it an ideal partner.
This potential move represents La Liga’s continued push to grow its global audience and commercial reach, especially in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
While no specific date or fixture has been confirmed yet, Tebas’ comments suggest the idea is moving from discussion to active planning. Fans could soon witness historic La Liga matches played on Moroccan soil, a first for the competition. It remains to be seen if this plan will face the same opposition as earlier plans to play a la Liga match in the United States
Could we see El Clásico or other big derbies played in Casablanca in the near future?
La Liga in Morocco might just be the next groundbreaking chapter in the league’s global story.
